Dream of the week: a plane crash

Every week, I share a dream analysis from one of my clients. This week, a particularly adventurous dream—a dream about a plane crash into the sea. A dream that even carries a message for the dreamer’s career.
In this dream, the dreamer is on a plane with two friends. The flight seems to be going smoothly until the aircraft is on a direct collision course with rocks in the sea. No one takes the lead to intervene, so she decides to do it herself. Yet, the crash is unavoidable.
After the impact, they jump into the water and try to swim to shore. But the waves are high, and the fear of going under grows. Eventually, the dreamer makes a conscious choice: instead of fighting the waves, she lets herself be carried by the current.
What does this dream mean?
Planes in dreams often symbolize ambitions, goals, or the direction of one’s life. A crash can indicate a sudden change, a loss of control, or fear that things are not going according to plan.
The fact that her friends don’t take initiative may reflect a situation where the dreamer is used to relying on others for guidance or support. But now, they are not stepping up, forcing her to take action herself. This aligns with previous dreams in which she repeatedly finds herself taking the lead when others don’t. This recurring pattern could be sending her a message: an invitation to embrace a more leadership-oriented role, especially in her work.
The rocks in the sea symbolize obstacles and challenges. Swimming toward land represents a search for stability after a difficult period. The fear of the waves and the sensation of drowning may signify emotional overwhelm. However, there is a turning point—she decides to stop resisting and go with the flow.
The message of this dream
This dream seems to invite reflection on the balance between control and surrender. There are moments when taking charge and making decisions is necessary. But there are also times when it’s better to trust the natural course of life. For this dreamer, it appears to be time to take her leadership qualities seriously, particularly in her professional life. Perhaps this dream is the push she needs to take the next step forward.
